I had the honour of sitting down with the brilliant writer Nour Abi-Nakhoul to discuss aspects of my practice, the tensions between faith and science, and working for years out of a basement.

My newest glass installation, Standing Wave, gives the illusion of motion while at rest - 907 chromatic glass hemispheres create a ripple of colour that travels with the viewer, alluding to gravitational waves and alcubierre drives.

Public Art Commission: Chapelle de Boondael, Brussels /
Very excited to announce that I’ve won a public art commission in Brussels, Belgium, in the commune of Ixelles.
The Boondael Chapel is a decommissioned church, originally built in the 15th century, which changed forms over the past few generations - the latest iteration built in the 1800’s. It’s currently used as a concert, cultural and exhibition space in Brussels, incubating local and international talent, as a gathering place for creativity in the city.
For this project, I researched secular use of religious architecture in Belgian history, and found that many coastal churches were repurposed as lighthouses. Their spires would draw and guide wayward ships along a perilous coast - their bells replaced with light. I took inspiration from this idea - a lighthouse, a guiding principle, the transformation of light and sound harmonics.
Formally, I looked to fresnel lenses, used in these beacons to refract and disperse light, in doing so I created a glazing system that captures and refracts a cascading range of colour, especially when viewed in motion. I’ll be recreating 14 windows in the chapel. Fabrication and installation is slated to begin in 2023.

Interview with Klanglicht, Graz 2019 /
Jordan Söderberg Mills is an interdisciplinary light and glass artist working closely with light refraction through and in a range of materials. Glass has thus become an important feature of his work. Whether he’s working with installations, sculpture or design, each of his works plays with the boundaries between digital and analogue reality. His works can be/have been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Blythe House, at the London Design Festival and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Santiago, Chile.
His project "Luxe" was developed in collaboration with XAL and Kastner & Öhler. XAL Pivot lighting is an integral part of this light Installation. Jordans project "Wunderland" displays Graz residents’ own photographs of their favourite places, viewed through Jordan Söderberg Mills’ glass photographic looking glass filter.Both projects are part of "Klanglicht 2019", Austrias biggest festival of sound and vision...
